Stella Roberts is a Birmingham based pianist working as a Composer, Band-leader and Side-woman.
After graduating from the Jazz course at the Birmingham Conservatoire (www.bcu.ac.uk/conservatoire), Stella has formed her sextet where she continues to develop her compositional approach. The sextet have recently recorded their debut EP Solace Suite, which has taken strongs influence from the landscape and creatures found where she grew up in the Peak District.
Along side working on compositional projects, Stella is a passionate teacher, and has gained much experience as an educator. Stella is a regular teacher of one to one jazz and classical piano lessons, and has also been involved in workshop events with Jazzlines THSH (www.thsh.co.uk/whats-on/org/jazzlines). Stella has been lucky enough to work on projects such as Generation Ladywood, she has been involved with events orgainsed by the Women In Jazz movement within Jazzlines, and is currently working on a set of music with the Jazzlines Ensemble to perform at Mostly Jazz, Funk and Soul festival.
Whilst at Birmingham Conservatoire, Stella met Anna Palmer, who fronts the band Dorcha. Stella has been a member of the five-piece band of "synths, strings, electronics and heavy beats" since 2015. The band have recently recorded and released their new EP 'ISM' and are currently leading a miniatures project with 10 different composers, of which Stella is one. Stella's miniature will be released at the end of June.
