Archipelago are a reeds/bass/drums trio from Newcastle upon Tyne. Their music fuses jazz, garage-rock and free improvisation into a fluid collage somewhere between the fixed and the floating; exploring song forms and emotional narratives with riffs, silence, noise, grooves and improvisation. By turns lyrical, sparse, frantic or crunchingly loud, Archipelago are fast growing a reputation for their honest, engaged musicianship and compelling live performances.
Formed late in 2015, after working together in various projects, Archipelago spent years gigging and writing music, before releasing a debut full-length LP ‘Weightless’ in 2017. They have shared bills with some of the most exciting artists in the UK and European jazz scenes, including Horse Orchestra (DK), Krokofant (Norway), Ripsaw Catfish, Binker & Moses and Arun Ghosh.
Christian Alderson – Drums and percussion
